Title I Parent Information

Parental Information for Title I Schools

 The following schools in this District receive federal funding through Title I:  Jenkins Elementary, Longview Elementary, Oakwood Elementary, Southwest Elementary, Viewmont Elementary, Grandview Middle, Northview Middle, and Hickory Career and Arts Magnet High School.  These funds are used to provide supplemental instruction to students who are in need of assistance in the area of reading or math.  Our goal is to provide early intervention to struggling learners.

 Federal guidelines require that school districts provide a process by which parents may request the qualifications of their child’s teacher, insuring that the teacher meets Highly Qualified standards.  As a parent of a student in a Title I school, you have the right to know the following information:

 Whether the teacher has met state qualifications for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction;

  • Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which state qualifications have been waived;
  • The baccalaureate degree major of the teacher and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree;
  • Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.

 If you would like to receive any of the information listed above for any of your child’s teachers, please contact the Personnel Department at 828.322.2855, ext. 215.
