How do I know if my child is developing appropriately?
Each child grows and changes individually. However, there are some important signs that may indicate that development is delayed. By 3 years old your child should:
- Count to 5
- Be able to hand you "1" item
- Understand at least five position words (over, under, in, out, on)
- Participate in pretend play
- Sit and listen to an age-appropriate book
- Show signs of interest in toilet training
- Jump, hop, run, and balance
- Snip with scissors
- Draw a line and a circle
- Talk in complete sentences
- Say words clearly
- Use a vocabulary of at least 500 words
- Name actions
- Give reasonable answers to questions such as "What do you do when you are thirsty?"
